The Loyola University Chicago community mourns the death of Vanessa Ann Crouther, a staff member in University Libraries, who passed away on March 5, 2023.

Crouther worked for 45 years as access services supervisor to the Lewis Library at the Water Tower Campus. She will be remembered as mentoring many students during her time as a librarian.

A Loyola alumna (BA '80), Crouther graduated with a degree in English and Communication Arts and was a writer of poems and short stories. She loved opera, reading science fiction, and attending annual science fiction conventions in the Chicagoland area like Windycon and Capricon.

Friends and colleauges remember that Crouther was always ready with a helping hand and a kind word. She was always one of the first people to jump in and help students and faculty at the libraries. She took time out of her daily schedule to mentor students, showcase social justice topics in her library displays, and find ways to help students succeed.

Crouther will also be remembered for putting the needs of others before her own. She was an excellent colleague and friend whose presence brought joy to all who had the privelege of knowing her.

Please keep Vanessa and her family, as well as all those whose lives she touched in your thoughts and prayers.
